The Matapedia River begins at Lake Matapedia and meanders through one of Québec’s most beautiful valleys that bears the same name. It flows by many salmon pools and little rapids before falling into the Restigouche River at the village of Matapedia. We must not forget that the Matapedia River is one of Québec’s richest Salmon Rivers. Look carefully into the pools and you’ll be able to see them.
The Restigouche river, a river well known worldwide for salmon fishing, offers you 90 km of family fun paddling. You will see sights ranging from salmon fishing lodges to bald-headed eagles as you paddle through some of the Appalachian Mountains. You may also get the chance to see nature's flora and fauna such as Atlantic salmon, moose, deer and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
Situated on the highland of the valley, 68 km west of Matapedia, the Patapedia criss-crosses 70 km through mountains and falls into the well known one million dollar pool, where you will find an incredible amount of salmon. The lower section of the Patapedia River also separates the two provinces of Québec and New-Brunswick. It is located in a deep forest that will give you an experience of the omnipresent tranquility of this place while enjoying a relaxing paddle.
If you enjoy the rushing feeling of having your face washed out by the rapids that plunder against your canoe, this is the river for you. This intense river is accessible from early spring to late June or when the water level is good enough to paddle. She takes her source from the summits of Notre-Dame and the Chic-Chocs. She then continues to linger down for about 50 km before reaching the Matapedia River, 20 km up from Matapedia town.
To expand the distance paddled on the Restigouche, we offer an additional 65km on the isolated Kedgwick River before it joins the Restigouche. This river crosses wild and superb scenery that will bring you both peace and serenity. On this river, don’t be surprised to see fishermen as you pass by the ever popular salmon pools. The water, so clear, will allow you to take a glimpse of the salmon swirling by your canoe.
This isolated river of northern New-Brunswick reaches the Restigouche River just before the rafting ground. You have the possibility of taking either one of her two branches for a wild 2 day paddle. The Southeast branch, coming down from Lake Upsalquitch, will take you on an easy 2 day journey with a distance close to 50km. We will suggest spending the night at the Crooked Rapid camping with its little roof shelter. The Northwest branch, taking her source from small streams, is more isolated and offers a longer distance to paddle. While you progress in your adventure, the bigger the Upsalquich becomes. The River menders down a valley in the heart of the Appalachians, giving the chance of seeing lots of big pines, birds and wildlife. The silence and beauty of the landscape will make you break away from your everyday life.
